Mission Statement:
We strive to bring about peace, justice, empowerment, liberation from all kinds of bondages in the lives of people especially the marginalized, deprived sections (Dalits, Women, Children) of the society through the process of animation, organization and empowerment.

About the Organization:
Diocesan Development & Welfare Society was established in the year 1980, mandated by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Allahabad. Though it was registered in the year 1980 but it started working decades back. Its main purpose is to serve and empower those in the community who are living in the grip of poverty and to work towards the empowerment of deprived so that they can shape their own destiny through both effective development work and by decentralizing the organization’s administration in order to better serve the poor. It is presently working over in 13 civil districts in Uttar Pradesh and 6 civil districts in Bihar through its various ongoing programmes to bring community on the common platform to discuss the issue of development and to bring sustainable change in the society by listening to poor people and promoting their voices in the development process; understanding and addressing their needs, priorities and aspiration.

The organization works with the people who have seen the extreme poverty and are going through the harsh realties of life through its social centers spread out in the remote areas. DDWS is into many such things which may help to promote the people of the rural areas so that they can bring the sustainable change in their livelihood and as well in their community. Its team has been shaped in order to build the capacity of the organization and to enable good cooperation with our beneficiaries, trust participants, NGO bureau and other local and government agencies. It has also extended its services to all irrespective of any caste, creed color and in doing so have even crossed the boundaries of our Diocese and people in general have highly appreciated the services that have been by the DDWS which is to serve and to impoverish rural communities.

Since last 31 years DDWS has initiated community based development work to strengthen the poorest and most marginalized groups in the remote areas and has brought a fruitful results in the targeted area by strengthening government schools and health services through local advocacy, income generation programmes, health education, a shelter home for women in crisis, legal aid and legal literacy, community vigilance against bonded labor and child labor, Child line programme (the national hotline for children in crisis) and Bal Vikas Ashram. Capacity building among these communities is creating a layer of skilled leadership among the poor and oppressed, especially of people who are now social activists, youth leaders, paralegals and paramedical workers.

Various right based activities to safeguard the exploited, especially the girl child, children and women, the empowerment of the weaker section, the establishment of credit unions, the disaster management, conducting health camps. DDWS also takes responsibilities to promote development through meticulously designed policy, plans and programs by effectively implementing, monitoring and evaluating them to yield targeted result. In other words, it wants to undertake all possible action for the regeneration of self-esteem and confidence along with re-assertion of the marginalized and deprived sections of the society, so that they can control their own destiny.
