Aschiana, hosts World Day against Child Labour in Afghanistan
On June 12, 2013 Aschiana Afghanistan together with NACG hosted an event in the honor of World Day Against Child Labour at their Kabul headquarters. Their goal was to raise awareness among civil society members and Government bodies so that policies and procedures are respected and child labour becomes an issue of concern in Afghanistan.
On a daily basis throughout Afghanistan, children, some as young as five, are engaged in heavy lifting and hazardous work. They work as domestics or work on the streets. Among students, child laborers and street working children, mothers of the children were also invited to participate in the event to be a part of the discourse on education and at the same time create a sense of community among them. The programme also had a demonstration of judo and two performances by children reading poetry on child labour.
